“Both mental health and legal writers have proposed criteria for the diagnosis of PA. When Bernet recommended in 2008 that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) include a discussion of PA, the proposal included the diagnostic features of parental alienation disorder. […] In 2014, Amy Baker and her colleagues organized the criteria for the identification of PA into several factors. For use in this book,the editors and chapter authors have adapted the factors of Baker et al. for the Five-Factor Model for the identification and diagnosis of PA. The Five-Factor Model takes into consideration the actions and attitudes of the child, the reject parent, and the favored parent (see Table 3).”

“Zowel geestelijke gezondheid als juridische schrijvers hebben criteria voorgesteld voor de diagnose van PA. Toen Bernet in 2008 aanbeval dat de Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) een bespreking van PA zou bevatten, omvatte het voorstel de diagnostische kenmerken van ouderlijke vervreemdingsstoornis. […] In 2014 organiseerden Amy Baker en haar collega’s de criteria voor de identificatie van PA in verschillende factoren. Voor gebruik in dit boek hebben de redacteuren en hoofdstukauteurs de factoren van Baker et al. aangepast voor het Vijffactormodel voor de identificatie en diagnose van PA. Het vijffactormodel houdt rekening met de acties en attitudes van het kind, de afwijzende ouder en de begunstigde ouder (zie tabel 3).”

Het niet erkennen van de buitengewone ernst van de pathologie die betrokken is bij op gehechtheid gebaseerde “ouderlijke vervreemding”, en het falen om het kind te beschermen tegen de diepgaande psychologische en ontwikkelingsschade die gepaard gaat met op gehechtheid gebaseerde “oudervervreemding”, is samenspannen met de pathologie en psychologisch misbruik van het kind. ”
